Informative Writing
Informative writing tries to tell the reader about something.
Different kinds of informative writing:
Cause and Effect:
This writing describes how effects go together with a cause. Topics can include the effects of something from history, the effects of clean or unclean energy on the environment, or how learning a language benefits students.
Descriptive Writing:
This kind of writing describes a person, place, idea, or almost anything. It needs facts and true information to support it. An example of this kind of writing is a book report, or biographies.
How-To Writing:
This kind of writing teaches the reader how to do something, often including step-by-step instructions. An example of this kind of writing is a recipe for chocolate chip cookies, or instructions on how to build a bookshelf.
Compare and Contrast Writing:
This kind of writing explores two or more topics. In this writing, the comparison part shows how those things are the same. The contrasting part shows how those things are different. An example of this writing is an essay about cats and dogs as pets, or two different religions.
